Our notes
When we would choose it
Grok 4.7 is xAI's current flagship, released on September 21, 2026. xAI positions it for coding, agentic tasks and knowledge work. It accepts text and images, supports tool calling and structured outputs, offers reasoning effort levels from low to extra high, and has a 500K token context window. It replaces Grok 4.6 and 4.5, which were still listed at review time.
For faster, cheaper work, xAI lists grok-4.3 as a fast, reliable model with strong tool calling and a 1 million token window, and grok-build-0.1 as a coding model. A faster Grok 4.7 variant exists but, at review time, only inside certain coding tools rather than on the public API.
Because Grok 4.7 was released only days before this review, we would treat it as a candidate to test, not a default. Model behavior often settles in the weeks after a launch.
A fair test puts it next to Claude Opus, GPT-6 Sol and Gemini Pro on the same real tasks, with the same tools and scoring. See AI model evaluation.
As with any provider, keep the model choice in configuration so you can switch between Grok versions, or to another provider, without changing your code. See LLM integration.

Claude Opus 5.5
Anthropic's recommended starting point for most serious work: long-running agentic coding and knowledge work, with a 1M token context window.
GPT-6 Sol
The middle model of the GPT-6 family, positioned for complex coding and agentic workflows at a mid price level.
Gemini 3.1 Pro
Google's most advanced Gemini model for reasoning, software engineering and agent work, reading text, images, audio, video and PDFs. Available as a preview.
