When we would choose it
Midjourney released V8 in alpha in March 2026. V8.1 followed in April and became the default model on June 11, 2026, replacing V7. V8.2 launched in July 2026 with better aesthetics and personalization. Midjourney highlights better text rendering and prompt adherence in V8.1, faster generation and an HD mode with much higher resolution.
The key limitation for business automation is access. At review time, Midjourney had no public developer API. In 2025 it said it was investigating an enterprise API and took applications, but we found no launch. That means Midjourney is used by people through its own app, not by systems.
That makes it a tool for creative teams rather than for automated workflows. Designers and marketers use it to explore directions, build mood boards and create pitch visuals. When a process needs images generated automatically, from a product feed or a content calendar, an API-based model is the practical choice.
For automated image work, look at GPT Image, Nano Banana, FLUX or Stable Diffusion, all of which offer APIs or open weights.
