Stable Diffusion 3.5 is still the current Stable Diffusion image line at the time of review. It comes in Large, Medium and Flash versions, and Stability AI's flagship API image model, Stable Image Ultra, is built on SD 3.5 Large. The weights are published under the Stability AI Community License.
The license needs attention. Commercial use is free only while your annual revenue is at or below USD 1 million. Above that, you need a paid enterprise license. Check this before building a product on the model.
The main reason to choose Stable Diffusion is control. You can run it on your own GPUs, keep prompts and outputs in-house and fine-tune it on your own products or style. That suits businesses with privacy needs or a very specific visual identity.
If you do not want to run hardware, the Stability API offers the same models as a service. For quality comparisons, test FLUX, GPT Image and Nano Banana with your own prompts and brand references.
Whatever the model, keep a person in the loop. Generated images can include small errors, odd details or content that does not match your brand, and every published image should be approved. See social media automation.
